  1. Pack your Breakables in clothing and towels to save money on wrapping material.
  2. Make sure to label your boxes with the room you want the movers to leave them.
  3. Save on boxes by using your hampers, laundry bins and baskets (even your luggage) to pack your items.
  4. Stop at your local liquor store or grocery store for free boxes.
  5. Have all your stuff packed and ready to go before the movers arrive.
  6. Pack your dishes vertically like records to make them less likely to break.
  7. Use clear zip lock bags to pack your hardware like brackets, screws, clamps.
  8. Make sure to pack an overnight bag with your essentials including medications and a change of clothes.
  9. Don’t forget to file a “change of address” form with your local Post Office (online www.usps.gov).
  10. Make sure to pack those boxes full so items do not move around during transit.
  11. Place stemware glasses upside down to take pressure off the fragile stem.
  12. Donate or have a garage sale to get rid of items you do not plan on using at your new place.
  13. Drain all the gas, kerosene or other fuels from your lawn mowers, grills, lamps etc.
  14. Empty, defrost and clean your refrigerator 24 hours before your move.
  15. Buy a roll of Stretch Wrap to help keep things secure.  It can even protect your furniture from scuffs and scratches.
  16. If your renting, take photos of your old apartment/house to have proof that no damage was done when you move.
